H-E-B has made a $1 million donation to support five nonprofits working to make childcare more affordable and accessible for families in San Antonio, Texas.
Funding for the commitment – which supports programming that focuses on after-school care, early childhood education and other related services – came from H-E-B and the H-E-B Tournament of Champions Charitable Trust.
Organizations that received funding are Family Service Association of San Antonio, Good Samaritan Community Services, The Madonna Center, Respite Care of San Antonio and the YMCA of Greater San Antonio.
“Challenges around childcare affect too many families in Texas, and H-E-B is deeply committed to doing what we can to help uplift our communities,” said Monica Garza, H-E-B public affairs. “We hope our support of these dedicated nonprofits will help strengthen their mission to improve access and affordability for childcare in San Antonio.”

Mary E. Garr, president and CEO of Family Service Association, expressed gratitude to H-E-B for its investment in “supporting us in our comprehensive work to address these needs in our communities.”
“The mission of Family Service is all about helping children and families have opportunities to thrive and excel,” she said. “A high-quality early childhood education and development experience is critical to setting up a child for a lifetime of success and good health.”
