Tops Friendly Markets recently held a ribbon cutting ceremony for its renovated store in South Lockport, New York, one of the largest locations in the chain’s footprint.
The remodel, totaling about $4 million, is also Tops’ most significant investment to date since embarking on a capital improvement plan more than five years ago.
Shoppers in South Lockport will find new interior and exterior paint with awnings and landscaping, energy-efficient equipment and LED lighting inside and out, new shopping carts, expanded self-check outs, renovated restrooms and an enlarged fresh perimeter with updated décor.
In addition, the Tops South Lockport store has an abundance of conveniences – some of which have been enhanced during the remodel:
- Full-service Starbucks Café within the store;
- Pharmacy that has a new, private waiting area and provides a variety of services, including specialty prescriptions, immunizations, the New York Department of Motor Vehicles vision test and the new COVID-19 booster for those 65 and older;
- Refurbished fuel station;
- Flashfood program to eliminate food waste by connecting consumers with discounted food nearing its best-by date;
- Shop + Scan app to use a phone to scan and bag items as customers shop; and
- Online ordering with Tops grocery pickup, delivery and catering services.
“At Tops, we constantly evaluate the best ways to serve our customers and reinvest into our communities. These latest enhancements will help make life a little easier for shoppers by focusing on a strong combination of convenience, selection, quality and low prices every day,” said Jon Douglas, Tops district manager.

Tops also has expanded its selection of fresh produce at the store, complete with seasonal items such as fresh cut vegetables, fruit and trays. Tops partners with more than 500 local produce and dairy farmers, including Niagara Fresh Fruit in Newfane, Breezy Hill Dairy, Orleans Poverty Hills Farms, Lamb Farms and Richmond Farms Dairy.
During the ribbon cutting, Tops presented the following nonprofits with donations: Kenan Center, Lockport CARES Inc., Lockport Central Schools, Newfane Community Food Pantry, Niagara County Sheriff’s Office, Niagara Hospice, Sister Helen’s Food Pantry at St. John the Baptist Church in Lockport, South Lockport Fire Company Inc., Starpoint Central Schools and VFW 2535 Lockport Post.
“This considerable investment will offer customers a renewed shopping experience, starting with associates that the community knows and trusts, expanded amenities and a wide variety of high quality local, national and own brands all at a great value. We’re excited to officially re-open this location signifying our continued commitment to the South Lockport community,” said Ron Ferri, president, Tops Friendly Markets.
