Gelson’s Markets has opened its first ReCharge by Gelson’s location in partnership with Rove, a developer and operator of full-service electric vehicle charging stations.
Located at 1008 E. 17th St. in Santa Ana, California, the 3,000-square-foot convenience store offers shoppers an accessible way to charge their EVs while picking up meals, coffee, beverages and grocery staples.
Catering to on-the-go customers and neighborhood residents, ReCharge by Gelson’s features a selection of ready-made dishes, including sushi, sandwiches, wraps, salads and cheese and charcuterie plates. Customers can have a cup of coffee or meals in the Rove lounge or take them to go, along with other drinks, snacks, dairy and frozen items, bread, fresh fruit and everyday essentials.
“Launching this new concept is a major milestone for us,” said Ryan Adams, president and CEO of Gelson’s Markets. “For the first time in more than 70 years, we’re expanding beyond our full-service markets to bring our award-winning food, beverage and hospitality experience to a new audience.
“Unlike traditional gas stations where the experience takes only minutes, guests refueling at Rove will have more time to spend while waiting for their cars to charge. So they’ll have more time to recharge themselves as well with quality food, drinks and more from the trusted Gelson’s brand – turning an otherwise mundane charging stop into a luxurious and enjoyable break from the road.”

Rove features 40 ultra-fast EV chargers, a 24/7 lounge with restrooms, free Wi Fi and an eco-friendly car wash. The location also offers parking spots for non-chargers. In the coming years, Rove plans to develop additional centers across Southern California featuring ReCharge by Gelson’s stores.
