Northgate González Market is supporting its local communities through a series of charitable initiatives taking place during September.
The independent grocer recently joined forces with vendor partner Keurig Dr Pepper to assemble more than 500 care packages to uplift the spirits of children and their families fighting cancer at Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC).
The dark green Northgate Market-branded backpacks included essential items like coloring books, crayons, apple juice, apple sauce, water bottles, puzzles, a blanket and a handwritten note from one of the associates to the child. The grocer also gave 250 gift cards at $25 each to CHOC’s nursing staff in the Oncology Department to distribute to needy families.
“At Keurig Dr Pepper, our purpose to `Drink Well. Do Good.’ serves as the heartbeat of our company, and drives us to make a positive impact for our people, communities and the planet,” said Carlo Ohanian, VP of regional sales.
“Partnering with Northgate González Market to support CHOC is a powerful way to invest in our communities, providing care and comfort to children and families during challenging times. We’re proud to help create moments of joy when they’re needed most.”

Earlier in September, The Familia González Reynoso Foundation awarded more than $250,000 to 235 students to help foster education in Southern California.
“This significant investment in these students’ academic journeys is a testament to the foundation’s unwavering commitment to fostering educational excellence and brighter futures for Southern California’s youth,” said Estela Ortiz, president of the Familia González Reynoso Foundation.
Since its inception, the foundation has provided more than $2 million in scholarships to deserving students.
Partnering with the San Diego Padres, Northgate Market gave tickets to more than 260 underserved families and store employees to attend the Sept. 20 game. Working with a few nonprofits and schools, the grocer was able to identify recipients. The organizations included the Migrant Education Program of San Diego, Olive Crest, Perkins Elementary School and Chula Vista Elementary School District.
“Thank you, Northgate Market, for providing Chula Vista Elementary School District students with the opportunity to participate in the Northgate Market Day at the Padres Game,” said Student Placement Manager Corina Mitchell.
“Through this partnership, over 20 students and their families were able to watch their first Padres game, create lasting memories with their families and have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.”
Looking ahead, Northgate Market invites the community to participate in the upcoming Día de los Muertos 5K run at Angel’s Stadium on Oct. 12. The event aims to raise funds for the Anaheim Community Foundation, supporting its efforts to help fund local nonprofits.
