Northgate González Market executives were joined by local community leaders as they broke ground on the site for a new store July 30 in Lynwood, California, a food desert in Los Angeles County.

This store has been years in the making, as the location had to undergo extensive soil clean-up, remediation and numerous regulatory reviews and approvals due to a previous gasoline station tenant.

“We are thrilled to be embarking on this new chapter with the construction of our newest store in Los Angeles County,” said Oscar González, co-CEO of Northgate González Market.

“This store is a testament to our commitment to innovation and quality, and we are confident that it will surpass all expectations, bringing a new level of shopping experience to Lynwood and its surrounding areas.

“Our unwavering commitment is to cater to the community’s needs and serve as a vibrant hub where families can relish high-quality products and exceptional service. We are deeply grateful for the opportunity to bring Mexico’s rich flavors and traditions to Lynwood, and we eagerly anticipate serving our customers with the same dedication and passion that has defined Northgate Market for decades.”

The 36,974-square-foot store in Lynwood will feature a large meat department, bakery, tortilleria, fresh produce, prepared foods, a Taqueria and an extensive selection of domestic and imported Latin American grocery goods.

“A project of this magnitude has been long overdue,” said Lynwood Mayor Oscar Flores. “We are excited to bring this store to the community, as the city continues to prioritize inclusivity and accessibility. By expanding services and promoting economic growth, we aim to create a more thriving community for all.”

Northgate González Market is well known for its authentically Mexican signature items, including prepared carne asada, chorizo, made-to-order guacamole and carnitas.
