Invafresh Appoints Cron Chief Data Officer

Andrew Cron has joined Toronto-based Invafresh as chief data officer.

“AI technologies are revolutionizing the way grocery retailers operate, enabling them to streamline supply chains, enhance customer experiences, drive labor efficiencies, reduce food waste and use technology to guide and accelerate decision making,” said Invafresh CEO Tim Spencer.

“Invafresh is at the forefront of accelerating the AI transformation of fresh food retail operations worldwide, and I look forward to Andrew’s leadership in strengthening our capabilities in this area to deliver meaningful value to our customers.”

Cron is an executive-level data scientist and technology thought leader with a track record in driving transformational business results by bridging the gap between cutting-edge technology innovation and real-world application.

“I am excited to join the Invafresh team as this is a pivotal time to be in grocery retail technology given the applicability AI has in addressing industry-wide challenges,” Cron said. “I look forward to partnering with our customers around the world to transform AI technology into tangible business solutions that will help optimize their fresh food operations.”

He joins Invafresh from 84.51˚, Kroger’s retail data science, insights and media company, where he was SVP and chief scientist. In this role, directing a 100-member cross functional team comprised of researchers, data scientists and engineers, Cron built and led the research and development vision and strategy for Kroger’s data analytics and data monetization subsidiary, enhancing Kroger’s in-store and supply chain operations, as well as CPG partner product performance.

Prior to 84.51˚, Cron held senior data scientist roles with Citadel LLC, Weinrub Analytics and MaxPoint.

This appointment comes at a time of continued global growth and market momentum for Invafresh as the company is poised for further expansion in 2024. The company’s AI-enhanced solutions play a role in enabling grocers to optimize merchandising and replenishment processes while prioritizing compliance and sustainability.
