Resident Input Helped Shape New ShopRite In Old Bridge, NJ

Grand Opening of Village Markets ShopRite in Old Bridge, New Jersey

ShopRite held a grand opening March 17 for a new 80,000-square-foot store with pharmacy in the Glenwood Green Shopping Plaza in Old Bridge, New Jersey, that replaces a former location.

ShopRite surveyed residents to learn what they wanted in the new store, with those responses playing a role in the overall design and product selection. It also held an online naming contest for the café, with many people suggesting the Knights as a tribute to the local high school.

“It was important to us that the community be part of the planning, and Old Bridge residents told us they wanted premium quality and inspiration,” said Perry Blatt, director of e-commerce and business development for Village Supermarkets, the family-run business that owns and operates the new store.

“We offer all the value and variety of ShopRite with lots of special surprises we believe customers will love.”

Shoppers will find the meat and seafood counters staffed by butchers and fishmongers, as well as an expanded produce department with a large assortment of fresh cut fruit, vegetables and specialty grapes and berries.

The store offers chef-prepared grab-and-go options, including hand-rolled sushi, gourmet meals and sandwiches, a Shuk Kosher kitchen and prepared meals. It also has more than 600 varieties of cheeses and specialty soup and coffee bars that incorporate the Gourmet Garage and Fairway Market brands.

The store was designed with a focus on sustainability and a refrigeration system that reduces its carbon footprint by half. Ite also meets GreenChill standards and incorporates EcoVision glass doors and EcoShine LED lighting throughout to reduce energy consumption by more than 80 percent. High-efficiency heating and air conditioning and water reclamation systems further aid that effort.
