Dierbergs has begun a register donation campaign that aims to make a positive impact on healthcare in The Nuba Mountains in Sudan. Through April 8, customers will be able to donate to African Mission Healthcare through Dierbergs Heart of Nuba campaign.
Tom Catena, an American doctor, helped to establish Gidel Mother of Mercy Hospital, a 435-bed facility, which opened in 2008 in Sudan’s Nuba Mountains, one of the most remote regions in the world. He is the only surgeon for 1.4 million people and operates the only referral hospital for more than 44 million Africans.
Dierbergs was introduced to Catena and The Heart of Nuba by St. Louis-based orthopedic surgeon James Coyle, who is on the board of directors for African Mission Healthcare and is an advocate for Catena’s work and mission.
“When we were given this opportunity to make such a difference, I could immediately see how much good we can do for people in dire need. We’ve seen firsthand the tremendous impact our community can have when we come together,” said Greg Dierberg, president and CEO at Dierbergs.
“By partnering with African Mission Healthcare, we aim to support essential healthcare services in underserved regions and contribute to the well-being of those who need it most.”
Customers can choose to participate in store by rounding up at the register. Dierbergs Rewards members will have the opportunity to donate their points in the app or online.
One hundred percent of donations will go toward helping to provide healthcare to families in Africa. Additionally, Coyle and his wife will be matching every dollar donated, up to $100,000.
“On behalf of the beleaguered Nuba people, I would like to thank Dierbergs, the people of St. Louis and the Coyle family for their very generous support of our hospital in Sudan,” Catena said.
“Because of the ongoing war here, we are often the only place people can go for more advanced treatment, and your donations will help us continue to provide life-saving healthcare to those with nowhere else to turn.”
