For the 28th year in a row, Publix appears on Fortune’s World’s Most Admired Companies list, coming in at No. 49 for 2024.

Placement is earned based on responses from thousands of professionals within each industry. Companies are rated on nine different criteria, from social responsibility to the ability to attract talented people.

“At Publix, we pride ourselves in helping our communities and establishing a culture where we care for and respect our associates,” said Maria Brous, director of communications.

“We’re honored to be named by Fortune as one of the most admired companies in the world.”

Publix has been named to the list annually since 1996. From company ownership to a promote-from-within culture, the grocer invests in employees to retain top talent. As part of this commitment, the company recently made an additional investment in its associates by enhancing their paid time off.

With Publix’s hunger-alleviation campaign, customers come together twice a year to give at the register to provide the food items local food banks need most.

Alongside customer contributions, Publix purchased and donated $10 million in fresh produce in 2023 to Feeding America partner food banks. Together, through customer and company contributions, nearly $23 million was raised.

In addition, Publix collaborates with the Arbor Day Foundation to plant trees by using a portion of the proceeds from reusable bag sales.

Over a two-year period, Publix helped plant 430,000 trees in Econfina Creek, a forest ecosystem in Florida devastated by Hurricane Michael in 2018. In 2023, the company celebrated planting its millionth tree overall. Planting trees helps restore habitats for wildlife and reduces water runoff.
