Jason Read, director of store operations for Region 1-Central and North Jersey of Wawa, has been elected vice chair of the New Jersey Food Council’s (NJFC) board of directors.
“Jason has been an engaged and visionary board member and we are pleased that he is taking on this new leadership role with the New Jersey Food Council,” said President and CEO Linda Doherty.
“Jason is an enthusiastic strategic operator and collaborator dedicated to advancing our mission and agenda.”
Read joined Wawa seven years ago as director of store operations, supporting more than 115 stores in Central and North Jersey and 10 area managers. Prior to Wawa, Read spent 14 years in roles across all domestic business operations at Starbucks Coffee Co.
Read sits on the board of the Wawa Foundation, the board of Convenience Store Women and the Operators Advisory Council at Winsight Media.
The election occurred during NJFC’s annual membership meeting, where members reviewed the organization’s accomplishments in 2023 and the food industry’s forecast for 2024.
The meeting, led by NJFC Chair Andrew Kent of Glass Gardens ShopRite, included an introduction of new members in attendance, as well as the unveiling of 2024 sponsors.
The 2024 NJFC board officers re-elected along with Kent include: Nicholas Brown of KraftHeinz, associate vice chair; Michael Rothwell of Pennington Quality Market, treasurer; Michael Styer of Acme Markets, secretary; and Linda Doherty, president and CEO.
