H-E-B has begun construction on its 131,000-square-foot store in Melissa, a city north of Dallas in Collin County, Texas. The store is expected to open in 2025.
The Melissa H-E-B store will be located at the corner of U.S. 75 and Highway 121. It will include a full-service pharmacy with a drive-thru and a True Texas BBQ restaurant with a drive-thru.
The store will also include H-E-B curbside and home delivery, which will allow customers to place orders online for pickup at the store or delivery to the home. These digital services will give customers choices on how they shop, pay for and receive their products.
“We’re excited to strengthen our presence in the DFW Metroplex with our move into Melissa,” said Juan-Carlos Rück, EVP of North West food/drug.
“Our H-E-B locations across North Texas continue to stir up great excitement with customers, and we look forward to providing an outstanding shopping experience with the best H-E-B has to offer.”
H-E-B has designed the store inside and out to reflect the community’s character. With environmental sustainability in mind, the store will incorporate several energy efficient additions such as CO2 refrigeration units and LED lighting. The site also features extensive native landscaping.
To commemorate the groundbreaking, H-E-B will donate $40,000 to schools in the Melissa ISD. H-E-B gifted $5,000 each to Melissa Ridge Education Center, Harry McKillop Elementary, Sumeer Elementary, Melissa Sixth Grade Center, Melissa Middle School, North Creek Elementary, Willow Wood Elementary and Melissa High School.
H-E-B Melissa joins additional stores in Prosper and Rockwall, which are slated to open next year.
Recently, the retailer announced plans to open two Joe V’s Smart Shop by H-E-B stores in Dallas. These will become the first Joe V’s Smart Shop by H-E-B locations to open outside the Houston area:
- Joe V’s Smart Shop by H-E-B Wheatland is expected to open in summer 2024; and
- Joe V’s Smart Shop by H-E-B Buckner is expected to open spring 2025.
In the DFW area, H-E-B has opened locations in Frisco, Plano, McKinney and Allen. H-E-B stores in Alliance and Mansfield are under construction and are expected to open later this year.
The largest privately held employer in Texas, H-E-B has more than 430 stores and 155,000 employees in Texas and Mexico. As a multi-format retailer, H-E-B operates Central Market stores throughout Texas, as well as Joe V’s Smart Shop and Mi Tienda store formats in Houston. H-E-B also owns Favor Delivery, a fast and convenient delivery service that serves cities across the state.
