Hannaford Supermarkets welcomed customers to its new store Oct. 7 at 417 Payne Road in Scarborough, Maine.
Opening the 58,000-square-foot store – Hannaford’s second in its hometown of Scarborough – will deepen the retailer’s ties with the community while enhancing convenience for customers with offerings such as grab-and-go meals, a hot and cold foods bar, Hannaford To Go grocery pickup and delivery, about 20 self-checkout registers and a full-service pharmacy.
Hannaford celebrated the grand opening of the new Payne Road store on Oct. 7 with a variety of special giveaways and offers for customers throughout October, including the opportunity to win a $1,000 Hannaford gift card.
“All of us at Hannaford are tremendously excited to make our high-quality, fresh food and produce, convenient services such as Hannaford To Go, outstanding customer service and everyday low prices available to more shoppers in the Scarborough area,” said Todd Bullen, VP of retail operations.
“We look forward to welcoming shoppers to the new store and encourage them to join us as we celebrate this addition to our community.”
Shoppers at the Payne Road store will enjoy an expansive hot and cold foods bar offering fresh, ready-to-eat items made on-site daily, including brick-oven pizza and chef-crafted sushi. The store will also offer a variety of high-quality, freshly-prepared grab-and-go meals, including entrees, appetizers, side dishes, sandwiches and salads.
Customers will enjoy store brand offerings such as Taste of Inspirations, Hannaford and Nature’s Promise, as well as thousands of natural, artisan and organic products. The Scarborough store will also offer a variety of items made by local farmers and producers, including Casco Bay Creamery in Scarborough, Coffee By Design in Portland, Smiling Hill Farm in Westbrook and Watcharee’s Thai Sauces in Yarmouth.
The Payne Road store’s full-service pharmacy will provide an affordable wellness solution for the entire family, including pets. The pharmacy will offer same-day delivery, curbside pickup and mailing for prescriptions, as well as refills. A private consultation room will be available for COVID-19, flu, shingles and pneumonia immunizations.
Local nonprofits
To commemorate the grand opening, Hannaford will make $10,000 in donations to two local hunger relief organizations: the Scarborough Food Pantry and the South Portland Food Cupboard.
“As a committed community partner, Hannaford believes in nourishing our communities, including increasing access to healthy foods,” said Ken Kirouac, store manager. “We are pleased to support these organizations with this donation and thank the Scarborough community for extending such a warm welcome to our associates.”
Every Hannaford store donates rescued food to local hunger relief, and regularly supports local nonprofits and schools. All Hannaford stores divert or donate food at risk of going to waste, sending no food to landfills. In 2022, Hannaford donated more than 25 million pounds of food to hunger relief organizations and prevented 65 million pounds of food waste from reaching landfills.
The Payne Road location marks Hannaford’s 187th store, including 66 sites in Maine. Hannaford will continue to operate its other Scarborough Oak Hill store at its current location.
