Food City broke ground July 25 on its next supermarket in Alabama, a 54,000-square-foot location that is expected to open early next year at 1015 Gault Ave. South in Fort Payne.
“We are excited to be joining the Fort Payne retail community. We look forward to constructing a state-of-the-art supermarket that will create quality jobs and tax revenue for the residents of Fort Payne and DeKalb County,” said Steven C. Smith, president and CEO.
The location will include an in-store bakery and deli with a hot food bar, large café seating area, fireplace and Asian wok. There also will be a fresh food bar with a variety of soups, salads and fruits, as well as a hickory wood smoker, brick pizza oven and fresh sushi.
Full-service meat and seafood departments will offer quality meats, including Certified Angus Beef and pre-marinated/seasoned oven-ready products. Expanded grocery, frozen food and produce departments will feature a large selection of specialty, gourmet and vegan items.
The store will also have a pharmacy, Food City Gas N’ Go and Starbucks cafe. Online customers can use the grocery’s GoCart curbside pick-up and home delivery services.
The new location will also feature several energy-saving concepts, ranging from efficient glass cooler doors and parking lot lights to refrigeration systems with motion sensors and 100 percent LED lighting.
“Our customers can expect to find exceptional customer service and top-quality products at the lowest possible prices, along with great variety/selection and some exciting new services,” Smith said.
The retailer has also recently shared plans to add six new locations to the Huntsville, Alabama, area and its neighboring communities. It has already broke ground on one of the locations in Huntsville.
Headquartered in Abingdon, Virginia, K-VA-T Food Stores, Food City’s parent company, operates 151 retail outlets throughout southeast Kentucky, southwest Virginia, east Tennessee, north Georgia and Alabama.
Food City was recently named The Shelby Report of the Southeast’s 2023 Retailer of the Year.
