Iselin, New Jersey-based Allegiance Retail Services, a retailer-owned grocery co-op, has announced changes involving two stores – both owned and operated by Fouad Elayyan – that will now carry the Foodtown banner in Brooklyn, New York.
Brooklyn Harvest of Metropolitan Avenue, an ARS banner, has been converted to Foodtown of Metropolitan Avenue. It and Foodtown of Williamsburg held grand reopenings on June 23.
“Through research and market evaluation, we are certain the Foodtown banner will resonate well with the local customer base, as it does in other Brooklyn communities,” said John T. Derderian, president and COO, Allegiance Retail Services, regarding Brooklyn Harvest’s banner change.
For 68 years, Foodtown has served Connecticut, New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania.
“Foodtown of Metropolitan Avenue brings to the community a wide range of products, including expansive store brand products, along with a robust sales and promotional program,” Elayyan said.
“We want to unlock and provide some additional value to our customers in these inflationary times [and] Foodtown provides that.”
The same goes for the grand reopening of the Foodtown of Williamsburg.
“As additional supermarket banners push into the Northeast, we want the community to know that we are dedicated to bringing the highest quality products at competitive price points,” Elayyan said.
Allegiance Retail Services supports independent supermarkets (Foodtown, Freshtown, D’Agostino, Gristedes, Pathmark, LaBella Marketplace, Brooklyn Harvest, Market Fresh, Morton Williams, Big Deal Food Market, Green Way Markets and Shop n Bag) for retail success by providing them with marketing, advertising, technological and merchandising support, as well as a line of private label products, including Foodtown, Green Way and Rancher’s Legend.
