Jacksonville, Florida-based Southeastern Grocers Inc. is celebrating National Pet Month by raising awareness and support for about 400 animal welfare organizations in the Southeast and helping customers save on pet food and supplies all summer long.
Through May 31, Fresco y Más, Harveys Supermarket and Winn-Dixie customers can purchase a reusable community bag with a giving tag for $2.99 to help local animals in need while concurrently benefiting the environment by reducing the use of paper and plastic bags. With each purchase, $1 will benefit each store’s local animal welfare organization partner.
“As a dedicated partner to the communities we serve, we prioritize the needs of our neighbors and put them at the center of every decision we make – this commitment extends to our furry neighbors too,” said Raymond Rhee, chief people officer for Southeastern Grocers.
“As an integral part of our families, pets give so much back to our communities while asking for very little in return. It’s our privilege to support the work of animal welfare organizations in honor of National Pet Month. These organizations are devoted to improving the wellbeing of animals and promoting responsible pet ownership, and we are proud to contribute to their cause while simultaneously helping create beautiful, cleaner communities.”
Additionally, Southeastern Grocers is donating $15,000 in Whiskers & Tails pet food and supplies to support local animal shelters and rescues, including Jacksonville Humane Society, Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League in West Palm Beach and Lee County Domestic Animal Services. These organizations help provide vital pet aid to families in need.
According to the company, SEG’s Own Brand products offer about 8,000 items to help customers save an average of 20 percent compared to national brands, including the grocer’s Whiskers & Tails pet brand. Additionally, Winn-Dixie, Fresco y Más and Harveys Supermarket are helping customers save on groceries by offering larger discounts on more than 150 products as part of the “Down Down” program.
Winn-Dixie shoppers will save more than 15 percent on average when shopping items marked by the red hand on signs and tags throughout the store, which includes pet food, treats and supplies. Similarly, items marked in green and yellow signage at Fresco y Más and Harveys Supermarket are part of the grocers’ “Low Price” and “Low Low Price” programs.
SEG’s program has supported more than 8,000 nonprofits and prevented the use of more than 13.5 million single-use plastic bags since 2019. The durable and bright reusable bags are made from recycled materials and can be found at the register or near the entrance of each Fresco y Más, Harveys Supermarket and Winn-Dixie store.
