The Alabama Grocers Education Foundation hosted its annual golf outing April 13 at Inverness Country Club in Birmingham, Alabama.
The event raised more than $41,000 for the foundation to provide scholarships to employees and children of employees of Alabama Grocers Association member companies.
To date, AGEF has awarded more than $1.4 million dollars in scholarships because of the support of its members at its events.
The winners of the golf outing were as follows:
- First-place team: Gulf Distributing Company Team;
- Second-place team: Buffalo Rock/Pepsi Team;
- Third-place team: Alabama Crown Distributing Company Team;
- The longest drive: Alex Johnson; and
- Closest to the pin: Hal Tolleson.
The presenting sponsor for this event was UNFI, the breakfast sponsor was AGA Health and Wellness Trust and Red Diamond and the lunch sponsor was Byars | Wright and Publix Super Markets Inc.

The association will hold additional events throughout the year, including the AGA Annual Convention on July 9-12 at Sandestin Golf & Beach Resort in Destin, Florida; the AGEF Clay Shoot on Oct. 12 at Selwood Farms in Alpine, Alabama; and the Alabama’s Food Industry Finest Luncheon on Oct. 26 at The Club in Birmingham, Alabama.
The Alabama Grocers Association is a state trade association representing the grocery retail industry since 1990. With more than 135 retail members operating 850 stores statewide, as well as more than 225 manufacturers, brokers, wholesalers and other members, the AGA is the voice of the industry in Alabama.
