Continuing the celebration of the 10th anniversary of the Operation Appreciation program, H-E-B will honor the Month of the Military Child throughout April by supporting nonprofits providing outreach to military children and families across Texas.
Among its efforts, H-E-B gifted more than $300,000 to military-focused nonprofits, including Military Child Education Coalition and the Gratitude Initiative.
MCEC supports all military-connected children by educating, advocating and collaborating to resolve education challenges associated with the military lifestyle. Efforts from this gift include:
- Month of the Military Child events/initiatives;
- MCEC En Español Team, which make critical resources available in Spanish;
- Student 2 Student (S2S) program; and
- Since 2012, H-E-B has donated about $2 million in support of MCEC and its mission.
Gratitude Initiative enrolls 68 students into the GI College Success Academy, providing college and career counseling, test prep and financial aid counseling program for military families.
“Along with our brave military service members, their children also make sacrifices in service to our nation, and H-E-B is proud to support their growth and honor their courage and strength,” said Winell Herron, group VP of public affairs, diversity and environmental affairs.
Launched in 2013, H-E-B’s Operation Appreciation works with nonprofits and sponsors several events throughout the year to celebrate military spouses, support youth education initiatives and honor holidays, such as Independence Day, Veterans Day and Memorial Day.
Additionally, H-E-B’s annual donation campaign raises funds for military-serving nonprofits, including the Military Child Education Coalition, Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors and the United Service Organizations.
The program has provided more than $10 million in support to dozens of military-based nonprofits in Texas as well as efforts that provide mortgage-free homes to severely wounded Veterans.
Through H-E-B Operation Appreciation, H-E-B has hired thousands of veterans and active-duty service members, including their family members.
