Donation generated by in-store customer donations and a company contribution
Sunbury, Pennsylvania-based Weis Markets donated $425,000 to the American Heart Association’s “Life is Why” campaign.
“Weis Markets and its customers have worked together to donate more than $2.4 million to the American Heart Association since we first partnered with the organization in 2019,” said Maria Rizzo, Weis Markets’ VP of marketing and advertising. “We are proud to support their life-saving work.”
The donation will support the association’s efforts to raise awareness for issues which impact heart disease and stroke risk factors, including tobacco use and vaping, high blood pressure, CPR and nutrition insecurity, as well as mental resilience.
“The support of key leaders and associates from Weis Markets has been exceptional,” said Ashley Schade, regional VP for the American Heart Association.
“This support allows the American Heart Association to fund investments in cardiovascular research, improve patient outcomes, advocate for policies that promote community health and educate people about healthy living.”
In 2022, Weis Markets donated $300,000. The money was raised through customer donations at the company’s stores in February and a corporate donation.
Founded in 1912, Weis Markets is a mid-Atlantic food retailer that operates 197 stores in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey, New York, West Virginia and Virginia.
