The National Grocers Association, the trade association representing the independent grocery industry, presented a $10,000 cash prize to Karli West of Macey’s in Utah after being crowned the winner Monday night of the annual Best Bagger Championship.
The contest, sponsored by PepsiCo, was held on the second day of The NGA Show, which brings together independent retailers and wholesalers, food retail industry executives, food/CPG manufacturers and service provides for unparalleled opportunities to learn, engage, share, network and innovate.
“The nation’s best baggers competed last night in the Best Bagger Championship at Caesars Forum in Las Vegas during The NGA Show, showcasing the important customer service skill of bagging in a great atmosphere with family and friends in attendance,” said Greg Ferrara, NGA president and CEO. “I congratulate Karli on her victory, and I’m already looking forward to seeing the baggers compete again next year at the 2024 NGA Show back in Vegas.”
The results of the competition were as follows:
- Winner: Karli West, Macey’s (Utah);
- Second: JDana Sparks, United Supermarket (Texas);
- Third: Brennan Davenport, Publix (Georgia);
- Fourth: Nathan Brtek, Lou’s Thriftyway (Nebraska); and
- Fifth: Nolan McGregor, Fareway Stores (Iowa).
The NGA Show has been where independent grocers gather for more than 30 years, connecting supermarket retailers and wholesalers, food manufacturers, and service providers worldwide to share innovative solutions and best practices that support and strengthen the independent supermarket channel.
