Sylmar, California-based Vallarta Supermarkets has shared that its Lent menu will be available storewide from Feb. 22–April 6, offering a selection of food options for those adhering to a meat-free diet during Lent.
“We offer an extensive menu for customers forgoing meat this Lent season,” said Lizette Gomez, director of marketing. “Vallarta has you covered with tasty meatless alternatives and traditional favorites full of flavor that will satisfy every palate.”
The grocer is also serving other choices including freshly-baked ceviches, fish tacos and seasonal bread pudding – capirotada.
The following Lent menu items will be available across all 53 stores at various departments: La Cocina, Pescadería, Cevichería, Cremería and the grab and go:
La Cocina (Vallarta’s restaurant)
La Cocina a la carte menu offers items such as chile rellenos, tortas de camarón (shrimp patties), fish tacos, lentil soup and fried mojarra. Milk capirotada (bread pudding) will be available to order on weekends from La Cocina. Also offering tostado bolillo for customers looking to bake a capirotada at home, it can be found at the bakery.
Pescadería/Cevichería (seafood department)
The Pescadería regularly offers fresh varieties of fish, shrimp, imitation crab and seafood mixtures, selection of fresh and frozen quality seafood available at all store locations. The pescaderia features an in-house Cevicheria (ceviche section), offering nine varieties of house-made ceviches and aquachiles, made fresh daily in-store, several times throughout the day.
Popular ceviches available include: fish ceviche, mango and avocado shrimp ceviche and aguachile. All shrimp ceviches are made with shrimp from Baja, Mexico.
Cremería (deli)
Cremería at Vallarta offers a variety of cheeses, salsas and ready to go food items. For Lent, traditional favorites are returning to La Cremería including nopal salad, crab and shrimp louie salad; tuna salad, imitation crab salad, macaroni salad and potato salad.
Grab and go
Options include fish ceviche, shrimp avocado, mango and aguachile. Also during Lent options include pre-seasoned shrimp meals that takes two minutes to cook.
Also, through Vallarta Go, customers can shop and have their groceries delivered to their homes. La Cocina items are available for delivery via DoorDash.
