Dennis Gibson, president of the Fred Meyer Division, has announced his plans to retire after more than 38 years of service and leadership, effective Oct. 1.
Gibson will be succeeded by Todd Kammeyer, current VP of merchandising for Fred Meyer. Gibson and Kammeyer will work together over the coming weeks to transition their duties.
Gibson began his career in the retail industry in 1976 as a management trainee for Grand Central discount department stores in Salt Lake City. After joining Fred Meyer in 1984, he served in a variety of roles in apparel in Oregon, Utah and Idaho. From 1992-99, he held store and district management positions for the Fred Meyer Division.
He was promoted to VP and regional director for the division in 1999, prior to serving as group VP, store operations. In 2011, Gibson moved to the Columbus division as VP of operations, before being named VP of merchandising. In 2016, Gibson was promoted to president of King Soopers/City Market and has served as president of Fred Meyer since 2019.
“Dennis’ leadership, passion for people and success in growing future leaders within the company leaves a lasting impact on the division and the company,” said Mary Ellen Adcock, SVP of operations. “His knowledge of the business and industry insights he’s passed to others during his nearly 40-year career has been invaluable and will continue to live on within The Kroger Co. long after Dennis is enjoying his retirement.”
Kammeyer began his career in 1992 as a courtesy clerk at the Smith’s Food & Drug store in South Ogden, Utah. For the next 20 years, he worked in many store, district and division leadership positions.
In 2013, Kammeyer joined the Fry’s Division as a district manager. He was promoted to VP of operations in 2015 and later moved to merchandising in 2017. Kammeyer was promoted to VP of operations for the Fred Meyer Division in 2019 and was named to his current role in 2020. He also assumed responsibility for Fred Meyer Jewelers in 2021.
