West Des Moines, Iowa-based Hy-Vee will provide 1,000 free biometric screenings at more than 60 stores as part of its “Meet Your Metrics” tour during National Cholesterol Month.
Appointments will be taken on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last. Customers should contact the participating Hy-Vee nearest them to schedule an appointment.
A biometric screening is a combination of measurements and readings that may help in identifying potential risk factors for chronic diseases or conditions, such as heart disease, hypertension or diabetes. Hy-Vee dietitians will collect a blood sample from a finger prick that will be used to determine cholesterol levels, triglycerides and glucose levels. They will also take resting blood pressure, measurements of height, weight and waist and will calculate body mass index.
The entire screening process takes 15 to 20 minutes, and all results will be reviewed and received during the screening.
The following organizations helped make the screenings possible: Siete, Alaskan Seafood, National Watermelon Board, GFit, Vitamine and Performance Inspired. Each person who receives a screening will be given a Heart Health bag, including samples, coupons and educational materials.
To learn more about Hy-Vee’s free biometric screenings, customers should search for their nearest location and complete the online form.
Hy-Vee is an employee-owned corporation operating more than 285 retail stores across eight Midwestern states with sales of more than $12 billion annually. Hy-Vee has been named one of America’s top three favorite grocery stores.
