The South Dakota Retailers Association is partnering with the state fair to bring the “Best Bagger” competition to the public on Sept. 3.
Sponsored by Associated Wholesale Grocers and NW French and Associates, the annual competition features some of the quickest baggers in the grocery business in a fast-paced, head-to-head competition.
“This year, we have 10 different grocery stores bringing their best bagger to the South Dakota State Fair,” said Retailers Association Exec. Dir. Nathan Sanderson. “It’s going to be an exciting competition of speed and accuracy from the best of the best in our state’s grocery industry.”
All contestants will bag identical grocery orders and be judged on speed, bag building technique, uniform bag weight, personal attitude and appearance. The top three placers will receive cash prizes and the South Dakota Best Bagger Competition winner will receive an expenses-paid trip to compete at the National Grocers Association’s National Competition in Las Vegas, Nevada, for a chance to win $10,000.
“The South Dakota State Fair is excited to open the freedom stage for this fun event,” said Peggy Besch, state fair manager. “Including the Best Bagger Competition to our Saturday lineup brings a unique attraction for our amazing state fair guests.”
Contestants competing in the annual South Dakota Best Bagger competition must spend more than 40 percent of their working time bagging groceries and must be of legal working age. Only one contestant per retail location is eligible. For more information, visit sdra.org/bestbagger.
