Bashas’ has been named the new Guinness World Records title holder for the largest doughnut mosaic (logo). Hundreds of people gathered July 12 at Basha High School in Chandler, Arizona, to witness the attempt.
Building a record-breaking doughnut mosaic is just one activity that the grocer has in place to celebrate its 90th anniversary.

An official adjudicator from Guinness World Records was there in person July 12 to verify, record and confirm that the doughnut mosaic, measuring 902 square feet, broke the previous Guinness World Records title.
“We wanted to do something really special to celebrate Bashas’ 90th anniversary,” said Ashley Shick, director of community relations and public affairs for the supermarket chain.
“What could be more special than breaking a Guinness World Records title? We’re honored to be a record holder and are thankful for our colleagues, customers and friends who came out to show their support for our efforts.”
Bashas’ ended up preparing 15,840 doughnuts – and used 14,400 of them – to make the 902-square-foot mosaic of its 90th anniversary logo at Basha High School.
Here’s what the effort involved, by the numbers:
- 48,160 ounces of icing;
- 35,000 gloves;
- The un-iced doughnuts weighed 2,970 pounds;
- The iced doughnuts weighed 5,400 pounds;
- 1,320 dozen doughnuts made with 1,200 dozen doughnuts used for the mosaic;
- 512 square feet (the previous Guinness World Records title set in 2012);
- 200 doughnuts given to members of the general public who were first to arrive to witness the attempt;
- 165 full-sheet doughnut boxes for preparation, with each box able to fit 96 doughnuts;
- 85 hours of work; and
- Two box trucks and two pallet jacks.
The doughnuts used in the endeavor were donated to three large nonprofits – St. Mary’s Food Bank, St. Vincent de Paul and Waste Not – which picked up the doughnuts and distributed them to hundreds of smaller agencies.
