Southeastern Grocers Donates $262K To AHA’s Life-Saving Programs

In support of American Heart Month, Jacksonville, Florida-based Southeastern Grocers Inc., parent company and home of Fresco y Más, Harveys Supermarket and Winn-Dixie stores, has donated of $262,000 to the American Heart Association to continue the fight against heart disease and stroke.

During the AHA’s Life Is Why campaign, generous Fresco y Más, Harveys Supermarket and Winn-Dixie customers and employees rounded up their grocery purchase to the nearest dollar or made a donation of their choice at the register to protect the health of local individuals and communities while honoring their reasons to live healthier, longer lives. Each cent raised during the recent program will support the organization’s research for new treatments, programs and services for survivors and their families.

“Our customers and associates are the heart of our communities, and we want to thank them for their generous contributions to the American Heart Association,” said Raymond Rhee, chief people officer for Southeastern Grocers. “Our continued collaboration with AHA demonstrates how we care passionately about the health and well-being of the neighbors we serve every day, and this gift will support the vital research, education and programs to help safeguard our customers, our associates and their loved ones.”

The Life Is Why campaign encourages individuals to Reclaim Their Rhythm by creating healthy habits that work best for their life. AHA’s essential programs and research will help save and improve the lives of individuals in their local communities and support the organization’s priority issues which impact heart disease and stroke risk factors including tobacco use and vaping, high blood pressure and nutrition insecurity, as well as mental resilience and effects of COVID-19.

Over the past five years, Southeastern Grocers has donated nearly $1.5 million to AHA with the help of their customers and employees.
