Encino, California-based Gelson’s Markets has hired veteran retail executive Clare Bogle as CFO, while promoting longtime Gelson’s staff members John Bagan to chief operating officer and Ron Johnson to chief information officer. CEO and President Rob McDougall announced the changes Jan. 12.
Bogle comes to Gelson’s after five years as CFO at Valley Fruit and Produce Co., a $200 million, 250-plus person produce distributor, processor and wholesaler based in Los Angeles. She has held senior financial roles with retail-focused companies including Advantage Solutions, Pepperidge Farm and the Clorox Co.
Bagan, who joined Gelson’s as chief merchandising officer in 2016, previously held high-level merchandising roles at Guitar Center, Albertson’s and Target.
Johnson, joining Gelson’s in 2017 as VP of information technology, previously ran the online Disney store operations for a decade following retail consulting through Capgemini and Deloitte.
Gelson’s currently operates 27 full-service specialty grocery stores in Southern California. Each Gelson’s Market features the full amenities of a traditional supermarket, with the local flavor of a neighborhood market.
Gelson’s in-house experts know Southern California’s lifestyle and are driven to find only the best foods and exclusive values for their customers. The retailer is particularly known for chef-prepared signature recipes and hand-selected produce, and the best and freshest cuts of meat and seafood. This experience is rounded out by professionally designed floral arrangements and a selection of the highest quality and hard-to-find grocery items.
