“The Martinsburg-Hagerstown region is a strong growth area where we have steadily expanded and upgraded our stores,” said Jonathan Weis, Weis Markets chairman and CEO. “Our new store offers a tremendous range of products and strong everyday values. We are grateful for the local support for our project and look forward to serving the Martinsburg community.”
The store offers Weis 2 Go Online ordering with curbside pick-up and delivery, through which customers can order online and have their groceries handpicked by trained personal shoppers for pick-up or home delivery. With this offering, customers can use their Weis Preferred Shopper cards to save on their orders and earn rewards on gas and private brand products. They also can browse the weekly online circular and add sale items to their carts.
Sustainability features
The store’s sustainability features include:
- Skylights providing natural sunlight, which allow the store to dim the ceiling lights during the day and decrease energy usage.
- Energy efficient LED lighting in the store’s sales area, refrigerated cases, backroom, prep areas, walk-in coolers, freezers and parking lot.
- Adaptive case controllers in every refrigerated case, cooler and freezer to maximize refrigeration efficiency and reduce refrigeration usage.
- Case doors that have been added to traditionally open cases in the dairy, frozen and produce departments to minimize the air exchange between the case and sales floor, which saves energy and preserves product freshness.
- Variable Frequency Drives allowing refrigeration and HVAC condenser fans to operate at fluctuating speeds rather than at full power 24/7, reducing electricity usage.
- Heat reclaim processes that use refrigeration system heat to generate hot water and provide heat during cold weather months.
Martinsburg customers also will benefit from Weis’ Low, Low Prices program, which launched in 2019 and lowered the prices on more than 7,000 products to offer the lowest everyday price in the market. The multi-million-dollar investment in low prices is the company’s most ambitious price reduction program to date.
