The California Grocers Association has promoted Nate Rose from director of digital communications to senior director of communications, effective immediately.

Rose will assume responsibility for all CGA communications including California Grocer magazine editor and media relations coordinator, following the retirement of Dave Heylen, VP of communications. Heylen retired Dec. 31, after more than 33 years with the association.

Rose joined CGA in 2018 and was tasked with elevating the association’s digital communications, public affairs, advocacy and social media programs. In addition, Rose serves as content editor for CGA’s weekly e-newsletter, Checkout, and COVID-19-member alert emails. Rose also will oversee the association’s communications committee.

“During his time at CGA, Nate has demonstrated the communication skillset needed to oversee this most valuable association component,” said CGA President and CEO Ron Fong. “CGA thanks Dave Heylen for his years of service and wishes him well in retirement.”

The California Grocers Association is a non-profit, statewide trade association representing the food industry since 1898. CGA membership includes approximately 300 retail companies operating more than 6,000 stores in California and Nevada, and approximately 200 grocery supplier companies.

In other recent CGA news, Hee-Sook Nelson, VP of team development and public affairs for Gelson’s Markets, was elected the 2020-21 California Grocers Association chair of the board of directors at the association’s virtual annual meeting. See story, here.
