Eric Mathis has joined Flowers Foods, producer of Nature’s Own, Dave’s Killer Bread, Wonder, Tastykake and other bakery foods, as SVP and chief procurement officer, effective Nov. 2. He will report to Steve Kinsey, CFO and chief accounting officer, and be responsible for managing the company’s programs for sourcing, procurement and supply management.
“We’re tremendously excited Eric has joined Flowers to lead the procurement team’s efforts for the company,” Kinsey said. “His extensive experience in the food and commodities sectors, as well as his cost containment and management expertise, will be a key support for our continuing priority to improve margins.”
Mathis was most recently VP of global sourcing at Krispy Kreme Doughnut Corp. Prior to that, he was with Mondelez International as the director of global procurement for the gum and candy category. Mathis has held a number of procurement-related roles with consumer-packaged goods companies, including Alberto-Culver, Wise Foods, Schwan’s Bakery, President Baking Co., Sara Lee Bakery and the Archer-Daniels-Midland Company.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in agricultural economics from the University of Illinois.
