Wegmans Hiring, Training 300 PT Employees For Virginia Store

Hiring and training now is underway for 300 part-time positions at Wegmans Food Markets’ new Tysons Corner location. Located at Capital Beltway and Route 123 in Fairfax County, Virginia, the store will employ a total of 480 people, the vast majority hired locally.

Part-time positions are available in all departments, offering competitive pay, flexible scheduling and a workplace known for a caring, family atmosphere. Select full-time openings remain for cooks, produce and bakery. Wegmans logo

“We’re looking for upbeat people who take pride in their work and have a passion for food,” said Store Manager Kevin Russell. “We begin training new employees once they are onboarded so that they are prepared for opening day. They receive some of the most in-depth culinary, service and product education in the industry.”

Opportunities for advancement are plentiful at Wegmans, often leading to long, diverse careers. The Tysons Corner leadership team, including the store manager, executive chef, service area manager and merchandising area manager, are living proof. Together they bring nearly 80 years of combined Wegmans experience to the store.

 

Store Manager Kevin Russell

Kevin Russell’s 34-year career began as a produce clerk at the Corning, New York, store. As opportunities became available, he moved from night managerial positions to perishable manager, then assistant store manager. He became a store manager in 1999, just 13 years after joining Wegmans. Before his assignment as opening store manager at Tysons Corner, he was store manager at the Medford, Massachusetts location. In 2019, he relocated to Virginia to open the Tysons Corner store.

 

Executive Chef Patrick Deans

Patrick Deans started with Wegmans as a full-time line cook in 2009. He holds a Culinary Arts degree from the Culinary Institute of America. In 2013, he completed Wegmans’ Culinary Management Trainee program, which involves in-depth culinary and leadership training for aspiring chefs. After completing the program, he was promoted to sous chef and later became executive chef at the Alexandria, Virginia, store. At Tysons Corner, he will lead the team of 135 culinary employees who make Wegmans’ restaurant foods, including made-to-order salads, hot soup, fresh sushi, pizza and more.

 

Service Area Manager Matt Collalto

Matt Collalto joined Wegmans in 2001 as a part-time customer service employee. He’s held a variety of roles in seafood, restaurant foods and on the front-end. As service area manager, Collalto will lead the front end, customer service desk, maintenance team, helping hands (parking lot attendants) and the accounting office. He will ensure incredible customer service, a point of distinction at Wegmans, and also will supervise local community giving, carrying out Wegmans’ commitment to make a difference in every community it serves.

 

Merchandising Area Manager Claudia Worley

Claudia Worley has been with Wegmans since 2005. She’s worked in several departments throughout the store including natural foods, international foods, bulk foods, dairy and grocery. Most recently, she was the merchandising area manager at the Fairfax, Virginia, store. At Tysons Corner, she will oversee merchandising, sales and employee development for the grocery, dairy, frozen foods, natural wellness, home and entertaining, health and beauty, wine and beer departments. Worley will work collaboratively across the store to ensure that the thousands of products that Wegmans offers are well displayed and well stocked.

Tysons Corner Wegmans is accessible by the McLean Silver Line Metro stop. The 80,000-s.f. supermarket includes a Market Café with indoor and outdoor seating and The Burger Bar, a family-friendly, casual restaurant counter that serves burgers, fresh salads, sandwiches, specialty milkshakes, soups and sides.

Wegmans Food Markets Inc. is a 101-store supermarket chain with stores in New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Virginia, Maryland, Massachusetts and North Carolina. The family company, headquartered in Rochester, New York, celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2016.
