AJ Bernstein, VP of marketing for Bolthouse Farms, said the Bakersfield, California-based company was launching more than 25 SKUs at the Produce Marketing Association (PMA) Fresh Summit. Most will start shipping in early spring, she said.

Bolthouse Farms is adding two new flavors to its existing beverage line: Dutch Chocolate Banana and Carrot Ginger Turmeric.

“Ginger and turmeric are very, very popular right now for their support of an anti-inflammatory diet, and they just happen to also taste great,” Bernstein said.

In its salad dressing line, Bolthouse is adding Honey Barbecue Ranch, Lemon Basil and Pomegranate Poppy Seed flavors, which are “all very tasty and on-trend flavors,” she said.

New lines that are launching include a keto protein line, which has only 1g of sugar per bottle.

“Keto is a diet that appeals to a lot of people. One in five Americans is either currently on the diet or interested in trying it, but even if you are not a keto eater there are attributes about these products that appeal very broadly,” Bernstein said.

These include the low sugar content and the inclusion of MCT (medium-chain triglycerides) oils, “which also is a highly functional ingredient that’s very popular right now.”

The keto protein flavors include Dark Chocolate, Coconut, Coffee and Matcha.

The next new line for Bolthouse Farms is its functional shots—Bolthouse Bolts.

“These are highly functional shots, 2 oz. each,” Bernstein said. “They are packed with a lot of functional ingredients, so they are not about sipping and savoring. They are about getting that nutrition into your body as soon as possible and as efficiently as possible.”

There is an Immunity SKU, a Digestion SKU, an Energy SKU (which contains 100mg of caffeine from coffeeberry) and a Metabolism SKU (which contains 50mg of caffeine plus cayenne pepper) “to get your engine going,” she said.

Another offering is Bolt Wellness, which features ingredients like echinacea, probiotics, ginger, turmeric and cayenne.

Bolthouse Farms also is launching a CBD line that is broken into two sublines: a functional infusion line and a coffee line.

Each bottle contains 25mg of CBD. A 12-oz. bottle has fewer than 100 calories and less than 10g of sugar.

“We’ve got three flavors of functional infusions, and that’s where we really took the CBD ingredient and paired it with other functional ingredients to maximize or amplify its impact,” Bernstein said. “We’ve got a calming beverage with chamomile and lavender. We’ve got a digestive health one with apple cider vinegar and probiotics from pineapple, and we’ve got an anti-inflammation SKU with tart cherry and ginger.”

The CBD used by Bolthouse Farms comes from Colorado, she said.
