Rouses Markets opened its new 43,000-s.f. store at Lapalco and Ames Boulevards in Marrero on Oct. 16.
“My grandfather, Anthony J. Rouse Sr., our founder, was born in Marrero,” said CEO Donny Rouse. “My great-grandfather, J.P. Rouse, worked on a truck farm in Marrero raising potatoes and cabbages after immigrating to America from Sardinia.”
The Rouse family moved to Thibodaux in 1923. J.P. founded City Produce Co. His son, Anthony, opened the family’s first grocery store in nearby Houma in 1960. Marrero is the company’s 64th store overall and fourth on New Orleans’ West Bank.
The new store, located at 6205 Lapalco Boulevard, features a farmers-market array of seasonal and local produce sourced through partnerships with local farmers, plus more than 100 organic fresh fruits and vegetables. Like all Rouses Markets, there’s a full-service butcher shop, seafood market, floral department and bakery. The store also offers fresh and prepared foods, including a poke bowl station and Mongolian Grill with made-to-order stir fry.
Opening-day festivities included storewide samplings of local products and Rouses own private label products.
