Salisbury, North Carolina-based Food Lion has served its neighbors in the Monroe, North Carolina, community for 49 years, and opened its fourth store in the community June 26.
The new, larger and more convenient Food Lion store is located at 250 N. MLK Jr. Boulevard. This is Food Lion’s 10th store in Union County. It replaces a former store location at 1678 W. Franklin Street in Monroe.
The store opened following a ribbon-cutting ceremony, and the first 100 customers in line received a free reusable bag and a mystery gift card valued up to $200.
Customers shopping the store may choose from an expanded variety of products, including in-store fresh-cut fruit, in-store made hand-battered buttermilk fried chicken and many other new items. The store also will feature a new garden cooler to keep produce fresher, longer. “Grab-n-go” meals will be available, along with fresh-made sushi. The new store also features an expanded health and beauty section for customers.
“We are proud to have been a member of this community since 1970,” said Kris Hathcock, store manager. “We are very excited about the opening of this new store that will give our neighbors a place where shopping is easy, fresh and always affordable.”
Additionally, the new store offers families affordable options from Food Lion’s Nature’s Promise beef, pork, poultry, milk, eggs, bottled water, cereal, coffee and other items. Nature’s Promise is Food Lion’s brand of products “free from” unwanted ingredients like artificial additives, preservatives and colors.
The store also features the company’s new Food Lion To-Go service. Customers can visit foodlion.com, enter one of the participating zip codes, and select this store or the closest participating store. Food Lion To-Go allows customers to order groceries and pick them up at a scheduled pick-up time, without ever having to enter a store.
To demonstrate Food Lion’s on-going support of the Monroe community, a representative from Open Arms Community Outreach in Monroe spoke about Food Lion’s recent impact in helping the agency nourish local families.
The new Monroe store will be open daily from 7 a.m. until 11 p.m.
