Associated Grocers Inc. in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, announced May 30 that President and CEO Emile R. Breaux has resigned for personal reasons. Manard M. Lagasse Jr., AG’s SVP and general counsel, was named to succeed Breaux in those roles, effective immediately.

Lagasse joined AG in 2007 and has successfully managed several different departments during his tenure with the company. Prior to that, Lagasse worked as an attorney for Allen & Gooch Law Firm and Juneau David Law Firm. He also has more than a decade of experience with Schilling Distributing Co. in Lafayette, Louisiana.

Breaux became president and CEO of AG in 2015 and will remain with the company for a short time to work closely with management to ensure a smooth transition. He joined AG in 1994 and previously held the title of chief operating officer. During his time as president and CEO, Breaux oversaw many major projects and worked tirelessly on behalf of the independent retailer, AG said.

“It has been an honor and a privilege to serve the members and employees of the company for the last 25 years. The blessings of the many friendships that have been forged during my time here will remain with me forever,” Breaux said. “Working together for the common good is what defines the excellence of this organization. I have no doubt that this legacy will continue under the capable leadership of Manard (Lagasse).”

A press release from AG said, “The Board of Directors is thankful for Breaux’s contributions, service and leadership to the company and wishes him the very best in his future endeavors.”

AG has more than 180 retail members in Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas.
