Jade Wong Lucas, national accounts manager-foodservice at JSL Foods Inc. in Los Angeles, now is promoting the Twin Dragon brand her grandfather created 65 years ago.
“I’m so pleased to be working at JSL Foods and having the opportunity to continue the legacy of the Twin Dragon brand,” Lucas said. “JSL Foods has been a great custodian of the brand, and I think my grandfather would be very impressed by the innovation JSL Foods has done with the Twin Dragon brand.”
Her grandfather, Hailey On Wong opened Main On Company in 1954, producing authentic Asian wonton wrappers, egg rolls, potsticker wraps, tofu and bean sprouts, which he sold to local restaurants and bodegas in and around the Los Angeles area.
Looking to build on his early success, Wong saw the opportunity to extend his product offering to include fortune cookies and noodles which was the impetus for the creation of the Twin Dragon brand. Twin Dragon brand name and iconic dragons came from a set of Chinese twin dragon bookends Hailey On Wong had in his office.
To keep up with the demand, Jade Wong Lucas’ father Kam Tim Wong and other family members entered the business in 1966. The business continued to grow over the next decade and as a young child Jade herself began working at the company.
Today, under the ownership of JSL Foods, Twin Dragon Asian Wrappers have evolved and are offered in five varieties: Egg Roll, Gyoza (Potstickers), Won Ton, Whole Wheat Won Ton and new Organic Won Ton Wrappers. All Twin Dragon Wrappers are Non-GMO Verified and Certified Vegan.
JSL Foods’ Fortune Asian Noodles are the No. 1 fresh refrigerated noodle line in the U.S. The Fortune brand accounts for 78 percent of all category sales nationally, according to Nielsen, and can be found in more than 5,000 grocery stores nationally.
