ShopRite plans to open a state-of-the-art, full-service supermarket at 45 Shunpike Road in Cromwell, Connecticut, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony to be attended by community leaders on Saturday, May 18, at 8 a.m.
Cromwell Mayor Enzo Faienza and representatives of the local council, chamber of commerce and area nonprofit groups are expected to attend the grand opening of the supermarket, which will be owned and operated by the Garafalo family and the family’s company, Garafalo Markets.
The 67,000-s.f. supermarket includes special new features such as a community room and culinary center for cooking demonstrations and workshops. An on-site registered dietitian will provide free nutrition counseling services for customers and staff, and the pickup and home delivery online service, ShopRite from Home, will also be available daily. The new store will offer freshly prepared meals, and customers can choose custom salads and dishes at stops such as the Grill, Sizzling Wok and Sushi, House Smoked BBQ, Go Bowls and Natural Foods. Those meals can be taken home or enjoyed at the in-store café.
“We are very excited to bring our ‘Fresh Marketplace’ ShopRite to the residents of Cromwell with the opening of this state-of-the-art shopping destination,” said Harry Garafalo, whose family also operates stores in Milford, East Haven, Stratford, Orange and Hamden, Connecticut. “We really believe the store will become an important part of the fabric of the local community.”
The ShopRite of Cromwell will employ approximately 280 people, and hiring continues to take place at the store. The convenient shopping format also incorporates the latest energy-saving and sustainable technologies, including LED lighting and environmentally friendly refrigerant systems.
Visitors to the ShopRite of Cromwell will find departments such as the from-scratch bake shop with special occasion cakes and freshly made bread; a meat department with trained butchers; a full-service seafood department with daily, fresh catch deliveries; the floral shop; and a full-service deli and prepared foods department with a grilling station and grab-and-go items, freshly prepared hot entrees, salad and olive bars and made-to-order sandwiches. The new ShopRite of Cromwell will also house a pharmacy and offer a large selection of organic, local and gluten-free foods and fresh produce.
