Giant Food Stores will open its new Walnutport, Pennsylvania, store on Friday, May 17, at 8 a.m. The new 55,000-s.f. store located at 300 S. Best Avenue will operate 6 a.m.-midnight seven days a week and bring approximately 200 full- and part-time jobs to the community.

Steve Bowlby, a 27-year grocery veteran, is the store manager. As part of the celebration festivities, the first 200 customers in line will receive a free Giant reusable shopping bag and other grand opening giveaways.

“There’s nothing more exciting than opening a brand-new Giant especially here in Walnutport where the support from our neighbors has been fantastic,” said Bowlby. “We have built an amazing team of friendly and enthusiastic associates who reflect the generous spirit of the Walnutport community. Our team is putting the finishing touches on what we hope is a special shopping experience designed with today’s family in mind.”

The Walnutport store will feature an expanded farm fresh produce department that has more than 350 produce items, locally grown items and organic selections, including in-store, fresh-cut vegetables and fruits.

In addition, the new store will offer a full-service deli featuring Boar’s Head meats, an Asian hot bar, a variety of hot rotisserie chickens, a selection of grab-and-go meals and seasonally right, fresh salads. Giant offers a selection of meats and USDA prime cuts including Nature’s Promise Organic meats and chicken. The seafood department has an assortment of shrimp, tuna, salmon, catfish, salmon fillets and just-caught clams. Giant seafood is delivered fresh daily, and all fresh seafood is sustainably sourced. The store will also feature a full-service bakery and a floral department at the front of the store.

“We take great pride in our unique local selections, and we are honored to feature PA Preferred items throughout each of our departments,” continued Bowlby. “For example, in our bakery, customers will find dessert items crafted by local favorite Kiffle Kitchen.”

The new Walnutport Giant also features a Beer & Wine Eatery stocked with more than 300 varieties of beer and wine, curated with a focus on Pennsylvania craft beer and wine selections. The Beer & Wine Eatery will showcase hyper-local beers within the special Mix-a-Six case, where customers can mix and match to find new favorites. Customers are welcome to dine in the Beer & Wine Eatery to enjoy freshly made meal combos, sandwiches, wraps, subs, salads, sushi and a hot bar. The new eatery seats 30 and will be open Monday-Saturday, 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. and 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. on Sunday.

Quality and convenience also extends to the new Walnutport Giant fuel station. For every $100 spent on groceries using a BonusCard, customers receive ten cents off per gallon of gas when they fill up as part of Gas Extra Rewards. Diesel fuel will also be offered along with an air station.

The company will celebrate the opening of its Walnutport store with local community groups in a special presentation on May 16 where these organizations each will receive a $1,000 donation: Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, Diamond Fire Co., Northern Lehigh Food Bank, Northern Lehigh School District and Walnutport Police Department.
