Rutter’s is expanding its operations outside central Pennsylvania, the York, Pennsylvania-based chain has acknowledged.
Construction has begun on a new store that is planned to open at the end of May in West Virginia. Future plans include a new store in Maryland, where Rutter’s operated stores years ago but closed them “a while ago,” according to Rutter’s spokesperson Kirsten Stanley.
The 9,100-s.f. West Virginia store will have 14 automobile fueling stations and seven diesel truck lanes, Stanley told The Griffin Report of the Northeast.
“Our strategy is simple. We go where our customers take us. We have customers requesting us in these other states, including West Virginia, and it is a great way to grow a brand outside of our home state of Pennsylvania,” she said. “We do plan to open more stores in West Virginia as we see fit. Additionally, we will be opening our first store in Maryland later this year in late summer, early fall.”
The planned stores will be added to Rutter’s 69 convenience stores in Pennsylvania.
Money raised for central Pa. charities
In other company news, Rutter’s Children’s Charities raised more than $210,000 for Central Pennsylvania charities at its 16th annual golf outing. Since its beginning in 2002, the two-day golf outing has raised nearly $1.9 million for children’s charities in Central Pennsylvania. The golf outing also will fund $100,000 for the 2018 Rutter’s Vote with Your Dollars and Rutter’s Rewards Schools programs. Last year’s recipients of the Vote With Your Dollars program was Make-A-Wish Greater PA & WV, Leg Up Farm and Adams County SPCA.
The Rutter’s Rewards Schools and Vote with Your Dollars programs enable customers to login to their Rutter’s Rewards accounts to choose from a list of charities and schools they wish to support. Every dollar spent at the pumps or inside any Rutter’s store with a registered rewards card counts as a vote towards the customers’ selected charitable organization.
“We enjoy our annual golf outing and support from strategic supplier partners to help raise money for Rutter’s Children’s Charities each year. This enables us to fund key local nonprofit organizations and schools that focus on improving lives of children and families in communities we serve. That is truly what Rutter’s Children’s Charities is all about,” said Scott Hartman, CEO and president.
In the past decade, Rutter’s Children’s Charities has donated more than $6.2 million to support charities in the local communities it serves.
