ShopRite has launched a line of gourmet-style meal kits for customers seeking convenient, creative dinners with better-for-you ingredients.

The packaged kits, available at select ShopRite stores in the supermarket’s six-state trading area, include a variety of entrees such as Thai Coconut Chicken, Chicken Marsala, Korean Beef Stir Fry, Moroccan Chicken and Pork Scaloppini.

Each recipe was created by a professional chef and contains an entrée that serves two to four people.

The pre-portioned kit includes fresh vegetables; a protein such as chicken, beef or pork; olive oil; and a signature specialty sauce.

According to ShopRite, the meal kits meet USDA recommended dietary guidelines and have been approved by ShopRite’s team of corporate and in-store dietitians.

Each meal kit has detailed cooking instructions on the package to make the process easy, fast and fun.

“We know our shoppers want to enjoy healthy, delicious dinners, but finding the time to cook a meal from scratch isn’t always an option,” says Geoffrey Wexler, VP of food services at ShopRite. Wexler cited recent industry statistics showing that nearly 53 percent of dinners are planned within an hour of eating.

“With the introduction of these meal kits, we’re able to offer our customers a simple way to create a five-star meal that is less expensive than a subscription service, doesn’t require advance planning or prep work and can go from store-to-table in just one pan in about 15 minutes or less,” said Wexler.

The pre-portioned kits are the latest entry into ShopRite’s increasing portfolio of complete meal solutions. Currently, select ShopRite supermarkets offer a large selection of restaurant-style, ready-made meals under its signature brand, ShopRite Kitchen. Select ShopRites also offer customers a signature “Meals Made Well” food cart, which features all of the ingredients needed to create a “meal of the week” that is located in a standalone refrigerated case, using recipes created by ShopRite dietitians and corporate chefs.

ShopRite is the trademark of Wakefern Food Corp., a retailer-owned cooperative based in Keasbey, New Jersey, and the largest supermarket cooperative in the U.S.

There are more than 270 ShopRites in New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Delaware and Maryland. ShopRite serves more than 6 million customers each week.
