Supervalu said in a July 11 U.S. Securities & Exchange Commission (SEC) filing that Mark L. Van Buskirk’s employment with the company will terminate effective July 16. Van Buskirk is EVP of merchandising, marketing, retail and pharmacy.

Supervalu said it is evaluating succession plans for Van Buskirk’s roles and in the interim his functional areas will report to Bruce H. Besanko, EVP, COO and CFO.
Supervalu named Van Buskirk EVP of merchandising and marketing in early 2013. He previously was with Kroger for 20 years, leaving that company as VP of meat and seafood merchandising and procurement. His duties at Supervalu have included overseeing company-wide retail merchandising and marketing efforts along with directing the company’s private brand offerings and retail pharmacy teams.
Van Buskirk is eligible for severance benefits as outlined in Supervalu’s executive and officer severance pay plan.
