Rosauers
Rosauers Supermarket began its journey in 1934 when J. Merton Rosauer, fresh out of school, bought a small grocery store in Spokane, Washington, with a $1,000 loan from his parents.
Launching a business during the Great Depression required immense courage and faith, but Rosauer’s perseverance paid off. By 1938, he had sold his first store and reinvested in another, repeating this process until 1949 when he opened Spokane’s first supermarket at 3rd and Oak. This innovative approach was a culmination of 15 years of hard-earned lessons and ideas, and the store’s success marked the beginning of Rosauers’ expansion.
Today, Rosauers operates a diverse range of stores, including conventional supermarkets, Price Impact Super Stores, and Natural and Organic Markets, across the Inland Pacific Northwest in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and Montana. From its modest beginnings with just 20 employees, Rosauers has grown into one of the most successful and innovative grocery chains in the region, maintaining its commitment to quality and community service. The original store, now seven times its initial size, stands as a testament to the company’s enduring legacy and growth.
