Category: Dierberg’s
Dierbergs Markets traces its origins back to 1854 when a general merchant exchange opened on Olive Street Road, near where Highway 270 crosses Olive today in Creve Coeur, Missouri. The store initially offered a wide variety of essential goods, including kerosene, flour, sugar, seasonings, boots and shoes, fabric and clothing, and hardware, catering to the needs of its customers, much as Dierbergs does now.
In 1914, William Dierberg, grandfather of the current chairman Bob Dierberg, acquired the store. By 1929, William passed the business to his sons Bill, Fred, and Vallie (Butch), and a year later, they moved to a new 3,500-square-foot location on Olive Street Road.
The business continued at this location until 1960 when it relocated to the corner of Craig and Olive in Creve Coeur. Bob Dierberg, Bill’s son, joined the family business in 1961 after graduating from college. By 1967, Bob had opened a second location, the Four Seasons store, located four miles west of the original store. This store was noted for its modern design and was featured as “Store of the Month” by Progressive Grocer magazine. In 1969, Fred’s son Roger joined the business, leaving behind a career in engineering at McDonnell-Douglas.
Today, more than 4,000 associates are part of the Dierbergs team, maintaining the company’s strong reputation for hard work, personal service, and community involvement. Dierbergs Markets continues to grow and serve the evolving needs of its community through dedicated service and quality offerings.
