Two of The United Family’s banner stores – United Supermarkets and Market Street – donated 1,000 pairs of socks Feb. 18 to Faith Mission of Wichita Falls, Texas.
This is the sixth year The United Family has teamed up with Rainer Fruits to make this donation.
The donation stems from a program called “Apples and Pears on a Mission.” Throughout the fall and winter months of 2024, a portion of the proceeds from purchasing Rainier Fruit pears and apples went to buying new socks to donate to organizations that support the homeless community.
“For some, a new pair of socks can make a world of difference,” said Joseph Bunting, produce business director for The United Family.
“That’s why we are so grateful to partner with Rainier Fruits to do this program for the sixth year. We are also thankful to our guests for participating and helping us positively impact our community.”
The following organizations will receive socks through this year’s program:
- Salvation Army of Amarillo;
- Salvation Army of Midland;
- Salvation Army of Odessa;
- Salvation Army of Lubbock;
- Salvation Army of Abilene; and
- Faith Mission of Wichita Falls.
The donation of socks in Wichita Falls is one of six donations across the state. The United Family and Rainier Fruit will donate a total of 5,000 pairs of socks to charitable organizations in Texas. Throughout the six years of this program, the two companies have donated more than 30,000 pairs of socks.
