As Veterans Day approaches, retailers are taking the opportunity to honor those who have served our country. Many are offering exclusive discounts and promotions for active-duty military personnel, veterans and their families.

In addition, retailers are also implementing creative ways to show their appreciation, such as in-store displays, online campaigns and partnerships with local veteran organizations.

Casey’s

Beginning on Nov. 6, Casey’s is inviting customers at its convenience stores to round up their purchases to benefit two organizations that provide assistance and support to military veterans and their families: Hope For The Warriors (HOPE) and Children of Fallen Patriots Foundation

Through Dec. 6, customers can donate two ways: by rounding up their in-store purchases or by adding a donation to an online order.

“Through our veterans campaign – made possible by the tremendous generosity of our guests, team members and partners – we’re not just providing financial support but creating opportunities and positively impacting veterans, service members and their families,” said Darren Rebelez, president and CEO of Casey’s and a veteran of the United States Army.

“Beginning in 2012, we have donated more than $10 million to these incredible nonprofit organizations. We are grateful to PepsiCo for their partnership on this campaign and look forward to offering continued support to the brave men and women who have given so much to our country.”

On Veterans Day, Casey’s is offering any size complimentary coffee or fountain drink to all veterans. Casey’s is extending the same offer year-round to active-duty military personnel and on-duty, uniformed first responders – including law enforcement, fire and EMS. Additionally, PepsiCo is partnering with Casey’s by providing a $25,000 donation.

“PepsiCo and Casey’s share a commitment to support veterans and their families,” said John Short, president of PepsiCo Beverages North America Central Division.

“Our team is humbled to contribute to the positive impact of Hope For The Warriors and Children of Fallen Patriots Foundation. Thank you to Casey’s for continuously innovating to raise more funds and awareness for these organizations. And a special thanks to Casey’s guests who choose to round up at the register and pay tribute to veterans and their families.”

Food Lion

On Veterans Day, the grocer is honoring U.S. active-duty military personnel and veterans by providing a 10 percent discount. The offer demonstrates appreciation for those who are serving or have served in the United States Armed Forces, National Guard or Reserve.

“Food Lion is committed to supporting our active and former military, who are an important part of the towns and cities we serve,” said Food Lion President Meg Ham. “With gratitude and respect for their selfless service, we are proud to welcome them to our stores and offer additional savings as a gesture of our appreciation and to help nourish them and their families.”

To receive the discount at the 1,109 Food Lion stores across its 10-state footprint, active-duty military, veterans and their families should present their MVP card and military identification at the time of checkout. Customers then will receive 10 percent off their entire grocery bill. This offer is only valid in-store and unavailable through Food Lion to-go pickup and/or home delivery.

Hy-Vee

The grocer is offering a buffet-style breakfast to all veterans and active-duty military members from 6-10 a.m. Hy-Vee is also providing 15 percent of grocery purchases for veterans and active-duty military. To commemorate the 25th anniversary of the breakfast this year, Hy-Vee will also have special memorials and displays at select stores across its region.

Hy-Vee is also holding its annual fundraising campaign through Nov. 17, matching all customer donations up to $100,000, with all proceeds benefiting Hope for the Warriors, Operation First Response, American Red Cross and the Puppy Jake Foundation.

SpartanNash

All SpartanNash-owned retail locations will offer an 11 percent storewide discount for active, retired and discharged U.S. military service members and reservists to thank them for serving our country. The discount is available Nov. 10-12.

Tops Friendly Markets

The Northeast-based grocer will offer military personnel and their immediate families an 11 percent discount off of their grocery bill this Veterans Day. This marks the 12th year Tops has been extending this discount.

On Nov. 11, customers should present proof of service that they, or an immediate family member, are a U.S. veteran, active duty, reserve or retired military personnel to automatically receive an 11 percent discount off of their total purchase that day.

“The respect and gratitude we feel for those who serve or have served in the military is beyond measure, and for that, we are eternally thankful,” said Ron Ferri, president of Tops Friendly Markets.

“This annual savings is just one of the many ways we wanted to give back to our local military community by honoring the associates and customers who have bravely defended our nation and made countless sacrifices through their service.”

Additionally, select Tops locations will be selling 4-by-6 U.S. flags with a portion of its proceeds being donated back to Buffalo Niagara Honor Flight. Flags will be on sale through Veterans Day.

Tops is a supporter of military associates and customers. The company’s support of military organizations includes, but is not limited to, support of the Wall that Heals, American Veterans Tribute Traveling Wall, Honor Flight Missions and golf tournaments, sending care packages for troops serving domestically and overseas, VA hospital visits, participation in veteran job fairs, parades and expos.
