Madison, Wisconsin-based Certco Inc. is continuing to evolve its leadership structure and board of directors in anticipation of EVP David Ryman’s retirement in September.

Since his retirement announcement last fall, the company has implemented several strategic changes.

Paul Frey, promoted to VP of sales and business development in October, assumed responsibility for the sales team. Comprised of two regional leaders and 40 support staff, this team has been instrumental in Certco’s growth.

The final piece of the sales team transition was filled on July 23, with the hiring of Jessica LaPhilliph as business development manager. LaPhilliph brings a wealth of experience from the retail grocery industry, having held various roles including bakery manager, deli manager, assistant store manager and store director.

“Jessica is a perfect fit for Certco,” said President and CEO Amy Niemetscheck. “Her deep understanding of the retail landscape will be invaluable as she helps both new and existing clients achieve their goals.”

Meanwhile, Justyne Uribe, EVP of procurement and category management, has taken on additional responsibilities previously held by Ryman over the past nine months. “We’ve carefully evaluated Ryman’s role and reallocated duties to ensure a seamless transition and continued company success,” Niemetscheck said.

Certco’s annual stockholder meeting, held Aug. 13, recognized long-term board member, Carl Miller, for his 20 years of contributions as a board member. Miller & Sons continues to operate two stores in Dane County, Wisconsin, supporting their communities.

Elijah Okey was re-elected to the Certco Board of Directors for a second three-year term, along with new board member Jason Hyland, representing El Rey Food Markets. In addition, Niemetscheck shared that Nanette Strennen will continue to serve on the Certco Board of Directors as VP and CFO.

The board officially welcomed and recognized Uribe, who will hold an active seat along with Niemetscheck and Strennen from the executive team.

Certco plans to share more news soon, including recognition of David Ryman and his more than 40 years of service to the independent grocery industry, and a report of the Certco Holiday Food Show in the coming days.
