Spokane, Washington-based Peirone Produce, a distributor of fresh fruits and vegetables to independent grocers in the Inland Northwest, has named Brent Shammo as its new president.
He succeeds Michael Kamphaus, who is retiring after leading the company for nine years. To ensure a smooth transition, Kamphaus’ last day with the company will be Dec. 1. Peirone expressed gratitude for his leadership and contributions to the company’s growth and success.
Shammo, who has nearly 20 years of produce industry experience, has served as Peirone’s director of merchandising since February 2022.
A graduate of Bowling Green State University in Ohio, Shammo began his career with Kroger, where he progressed into a commodity buyer. He then joined Oneonta Star Ranch Growers in Wenatchee, Washington, as its national account manager.
“We are thrilled to promote Brent Shammo to this important position,” said Ray Sprinkle, CEO and president of URM Stores Inc., parent company of Peirone.
“He has proven his ability and we are confident that his strategic thinking and dedication will ensure the continued success for our customers and lead the team to achieve new milestones.”
Peirone Produce was founded by Joe Peirone in 1945. URM acquired the company in 1986, since which it has continued to operate as an autonomous subsidiary company.
