In celebration of Independence Day, H-E-B will send 1,000 care packages to Texas military service members.
H-E-B invites customers to nominate an active-duty military service member to receive an H-E-B care package. Nominations are now open and will be accepted until 1,000 are received.
“H-E-B has a longstanding commitment to our nation’s military, and we are honored to celebrate our nation’s independence by sharing a taste of Texas with deserving military service members currently serving our country away from home,” Johnny Mojica, public affairs manager, said in a statement.
This effort is one of more than 100 Independence Day celebrations H-E-B supports each year across Texas.
Launched in 2013, H-E-B’s Operation Appreciation aims at supporting, honoring and providing employment opportunities to military service members and their families.
H-E-B holds events throughout the year to honor service members, celebrate military spouses, support youth education initiatives and observe holidays, such as Independence Day, Veterans Day and Memorial Day.
Additionally, H-E-B’s annual donation campaign raises funds for military-serving nonprofits, including the Military Child Education Coalition, Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors and the United Service Organizations. The program has provided more than $10 million in support to dozens of military-based nonprofits in Texas.
This year, H-E-B, through its Operation Appreciation Homes Built for Heroes program and the H-E-B Tournament of Champions Charitable Trust, will hit the milestone of gifting 50 mortgage-free homes to severely wounded veterans, an effort that began in 2013.
Since the program was launched a decade ago, H-E-B Operation Appreciation and the H-E-B Tournament of Champions have dedicated more than $5 million to this ongoing effort to build and furnish these homes.
Throughout the years, H-E-B and the charitable trust have partnered with organizations such as the Gary Sinise Foundation, Homes for Our Troops and Operation Finally Home to build homes across Texas.
H-E-B has been named a top workplace for military veterans and was recognized by Forbes as a top employer for veterans.
Through H-E-B Operation Appreciation, H-E-B has hired thousands of veterans and active-duty service members, including their family members. Since 2014, H-E-B has hired more than 25,000 veterans and military spouses.
H-E-B was also recently named The Shelby Report of the Southwest’s 2022 Innovator of the Year.
