In a somewhat surprising result, corn came out on top of this year’s Green Giant “Favorite Vegetable” survey, toppling five-time defending champion broccoli.
It was the first time corn finished first, a spot broccoli had held since the annual consumer survey’s inception in 2018.
The Green Giant brand surveyed 5,100 Americans for its annual “Favorite Vegetable” survey to determine consumers’ favorite vegetable in each state.
Key survey findings include:
- Corn’s popularity is increasing, with 32 states selecting it as their favorite. Runners-up this year (in descending order) were broccoli, green beans, spinach, carrots and brussels sprouts.
- Despite being the nation’s largest producer of corn, Iowa’s favorite vegetable remained broccoli.
- Missing from this year’s ‘Favorite Vegetable‘ map was carrot, which was ousted by green beans.
- Despite its second-place finish, more than one in three Americans surveyed found broccoli to be the tastiest veggie.
About 5,000 American consumers ages 18-92 agreed to take the online multiple choice survey, which was conducted from Feb. 23-March 8. The participants were recruited by a Suzy poll.
According to the company, the Green Giant brand’s launch of its Veggie Swap-Ins line, which includes Green Giant Riced Veggies, Green Giant Veggie Tots, Green Giant Mashed Cauliflower, Green Giant Veggie Spirals and Green Giant Restaurant Style Sides, has “reinvigorated the frozen vegetable category.”
