The International Bottled Water Association has announced that Tampa, Florida-based Primo Water is the recipient of the 2022 Environmental Stewardship Award.
The announcement was made during IBWA’s annual business meeting, which was held in Chicago as part of the 2022 IBWA Annual Business Conference.
“Primo’s water sources are paramount to its environmental, social and governance program, which the company started in 2019,” said Dan Kelly, IBWA convention committee co-chair.
Primo learned it shares water sustainability goals with the Alliance for Water Stewardship (AWS) to preserve water resources and the natural environment, drive water circularity in and around production sites and provide safe drinking water.
“While the AWS Standard is a comprehensive water use standard, in 2019 Primo requested – and got – approval from the AWS governing body to apply the standard to its spring sources as a pilot project,” Kelly said.
“With the leadership of its two hydrogeologists and AWS specialists Travis Thornton and Lou Vittorio, Primo Water was the first company to complete the AWS standard requirements for certification at the spring site level in 2020 and 2021.”
IBWA has been recognizing the achievements of bottled water industry professionals and member companies since 1963.
