In the spirit of Veterans Day, Silver Eagle Beverages and Budweiser once again are partnering with Folds of Honor to provide educational scholarships to two local San Antonio, Texas, students whose parents served in the military. The scholarship recipients are Ashley Perez and Manuel Hofilena.
They will each receive a $5,000 scholarship.
Perez is a sophomore attending Galen College of Nursing, where she is pursuing studies to become a registered nurse. Her career path was strongly influenced by the life-threatening injuries her father, Marine Corps Master Sgt. Marco A. Perez, sustained while on a combat deployment in 2004. The family was told it was a miracle he lived. Perez believes that growing up in a military family has helped her learn how to adapt to change.
Hofilena is a junior attending the University of the Incarnate Word where he is studying biology, with a minor in religious studies. As a result of the military influence in his life, Hofilena decided to join the ROTC program at UIW to ultimately be commissioned as an officer in the Air Force. He also wants to continue his medical pursuits while serving. His mother, Air Force Reserve Master Sgt. (Ret.) Gloria S. Hofilena, served the nation honorably for 25 years.
“As a local company with deep respect for the military, we are honored to be able to support the Perez family and Hofilena family by contributing to organizations like Folds of Honor,” said John L. Nau III, chairman and CEO of Silver Eagle Beverages.
Earlier this year, Silver Eagle Beverages partnered with the San Antonio Missions baseball team on a promotion to benefit Folds of Honor.
Silver Eagle Beverages donated $150 to Folds of Honor for every stolen base made by the Missions during home games. The Missions stole 54 bases over the course of the season, resulting in a total contribution of $8,100 from Silver Eagle Beverages.
Folds of Honor has received a total of $18,100 from Silver Eagle Beverages and Budweiser in 2021.
“We are so thankful for our partnership with Silver Eagle Beverages and the great American lager,” said Diane Nemecek, Folds of Honor regional development manager. “Anheuser-Busch has been a proud partner of the Folds of Honor for over a decade. This year, Silver Eagle Beverages has provided two life-changing scholarships to recipients in the San Antonio area. We are so humbled by their unwavering support of our singular and noble mission, and so very honored by their continued support.”
